The renowned Swiss private bank has been managing client assets for over 130 years and, as a trusted partner, offers clients an individual and holistic advisory approach. The Problem

When using Tableau, users regularly encountered two errors that significantly limited Tableau's usability and user experience. The private bank attempted to resolve these problems in advance, including in conjunction with other consultancy companies over the period of approximately six months. However, user-friendly or acceptable results could not be achieved.

1. Problem: SSO (Single-Sign-On) issues between Tableau Server and SAP HANA database

Users had to authenticate multiple times when extracting reports on Tableau Server, which relies on an SAP HANA database, even though initial authentication took place during the first log-in.

2. Problem: Performance problems loading reports

The loading times of certain reports via live connections between SAP HANA database and Tableau Server were in single cases more than one minute.

The Solution

As a specialist for SAP Business Warehouse and data visualization in Tableau as well as all frontend topics around reporting with Tableau, biX Consulting team was able to solve the problems within a very short time:

1. Problem: SSO (Single-Sign-On) issues between Tableau Server and SAP HANA database

After an analysis phase and preparation on the biX internal test landscape, a single-sing-on between Tableau Server and SAP HANA could be set up via remote access, so that users only have to authenticate once when using the system, as required.

2. Problem: Performance problems loading reports

Over a 2-day on-site workshop, the system, connection and architecture were analyzed. In just a few hours, an elementary improvement in report loading time was achieved from over one minute to approximately five seconds. Through additional fine-tuning, a further reduction in loading time to two to three seconds was achieved.
